Identify the affected dryer before changing settings
Record the full model and serial number, the machine’s location or asset number, and whether it is a single or stacked installation. On a stacked machine, say which drum is affected. Include the fuel or electrical information shown on the label without opening a panel.
For a coin- or card-operated dryer, distinguish payment acceptance from the drying cycle. A machine that accepts payment but will not tumble gives different information from a reader that never starts a paid cycle. Do not bypass the payment or safety controls.
Is one dryer slow, or has the whole room changed?
Compare when the problem began across the equipment. If several dryers change behavior at once, tell us about utility interruptions, building work or exhaust maintenance. This context can matter as much as an individual component fault.
Note load type, approximate size, cycle selection and how wet the items are when they enter. A change in laundry preparation or load mix can affect drying time; it should be distinguished from a dryer that suddenly stops heating.
Report heat, motion and sound separately
Tell us whether the drum turns, whether any heat develops and whether the unit stops during the cycle. Include error messages before resets. A squeal at startup and a grinding sound throughout operation need different inspection.
Stop use if a drum remains still on a heated cycle, overheating persists or there is a burning smell. Internal electrical, drive and heating work requires appropriate service procedures. Staff should not remove covers to check a belt or heating component.
Keep a maintenance record that matches the equipment
Follow the manufacturer’s lint-compartment, filter and exhaust requirements for that specific product. Commercial tumble dryers and single-load dryers may have different schedules; one annual checklist is not suitable for every workload.

Plan the visit around the laundry operation
Identify a staff contact and keep access to the affected machine clear. Mention stacked equipment, restricted service space and which periods allow access. Leave utility connections and heavy equipment in place.
The diagnosis establishes the repair and parts needed. When comparing replacement, include installation, compatible controls, access and the interruption to the laundry workflow. A generic equipment lifespan is not enough to decide.
