Describe the problem

Describe the affected burner or zone

One burner will not light

Identify the position and whether other burners work. Mention recent cleaning or a spill without repeatedly trying to ignite it.

A zone heats differently

Explain whether the problem is limited to one position, one control or a particular setting. Note any displayed code.

Clicking, damage or a control problem

Report when it started and whether the appliance was recently cleaned or installed. Stop using damaged equipment until its condition is assessed.

Identify the cooking surface before troubleshooting

“Stove” may refer to an entire range or only the surface cooking area. Give the full model number and describe the appliance: gas burners, exposed electric coils, a smooth radiant surface or induction. Do not infer the technology only from the appearance of a glass top.

If the problem is in the enclosed oven cavity, use oven repair and describe bake or broil behavior. If both the top and oven are affected, that combined observation belongs in the service request.

A gas burner problem after cleaning

GE’s guidance notes that moisture, dirt and incorrectly positioned burner heads or caps can interfere with ignition on applicable gas cooktops. With the appliance off and cool, consult the exact owner guide before any permitted cleaning or repositioning; disconnect power as instructed.

Do not enlarge ports, change gas adjustments or use another model’s burner instructions. If ordinary owner care does not resolve the issue, arrange service. Persistent clicking is a symptom to report, not proof that a specific ignition part needs replacement.

Discuss the repair and installation together

A diagnosis should identify the actual fault before a control, burner or surface assembly is ordered. Ask whether the proposed part matches the complete model, what the repair includes and what terms apply. Brand familiarity does not by itself establish manufacturer warranty authorization.

For replacement, account for the countertop opening, electrical or gas connection and installation labor. Tell the team about a built-in unit or restricted access before booking. These practical details matter when comparing a repair with a new appliance.

When the next step is urgent

If gas is suspected, leave the area immediately and contact 911 and your gas supplier from a safe location. Do not use switches, create a flame or attempt to locate and stop the leak yourself. Resume ordinary service planning only after the immediate situation is addressed.

For a routine service request, have the model and fuel type ready and describe the affected burner position. An existing photo of a display or a damaged surface may help communicate the concern; do not operate a faulty appliance just to create a video.

Follow the repair from diagnosis to operating checks

Start by describing the affected burner or cooking zone and any display message. Ask what the inspection found, which work is proposed and what the estimate includes before authorizing a repair.

Before the visit ends, ask which functions were checked and what care or follow-up advice applies to your model. Keep the repair record. If a concern returns, tell us whether it affects the same burner and whether its behavior has changed.

A little clarity

Frequently asked questions

Are stove and oven repair the same request?

They can involve the same range, but surface cooking and oven-cavity problems are different. Describe each affected function so the request reaches the right diagnosis.

Why did a gas burner start clicking after cleaning?

On some models moisture or the position of cleaned burner parts can affect ignition. Follow the model’s owner guide, and seek service if the problem continues.
