Radiant and induction need different checks

A radiant electric zone heats beneath the glass. An induction zone transfers energy to compatible cookware, so pan material, size and placement can affect whether it heats. The model number and owner guide establish which design you have.

For induction, follow the manual’s cookware and control guidance before assuming an internal fault. A pan-recognition symbol is useful information, not an instruction to replace an element. Do not use a radiant cooktop’s glowing-element test on induction.

A radiant element does not have to glow continuously

Radiant elements can cycle on and off during normal operation, and low or warming settings may not show a red glow. Look at the selected setting and actual cooking performance instead of judging a single moment’s appearance.

A zone that used to heat and now stays cold is a different observation from normal cycling. Record whether one zone, part of a dual zone or every zone is affected. The control setting for a selectable inner or outer ring also matters; use the exact instructions.

One zone and a whole-cooktop failure suggest different questions

One affected zone: the element, its control, wiring or another model-specific component may need assessment. The cold zone does not identify which of those failed. Report any code and the behavior already observed.

Every zone affected: check the normal control-lock and operating settings in the manual. Supply or shared-control problems also need consideration. A lit display does not prove that the heating supply is correct, and replacing every burner is not the starting conclusion.

Stop using the appliance for burning smells, sparking, repeated electrical trips or heating that will not respond to its controls. Arrange appropriate help. Do not remove the glass or probe wiring to make an owner-level diagnosis.

Cracked glass is a separate repair decision

Do not cook on a cracked surface. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for taking the appliance out of service safely and arrange assessment. The glass and the heating components have different functions; replacing one does not automatically repair the other.

What burner replacement actually depends on

Access can involve mounting brackets, seals, wiring and a supported glass assembly. There is no reliable universal instruction to remove two screws, lift the top and swap the burner. A qualified repairer must follow the model’s isolation, access, reassembly and test procedure.

Care that protects the surface without guessing at a repair

Clean only as directed for the appliance and the type of spill. Use compatible cookware and avoid dragging rough bases across the glass. Surface care can help preserve the finish, but it will not repair a failed heating circuit.
