How Much Does Oven Repair Cost?
See what changes an oven repair estimate, from elements and ignition to doors and controls, and compare repair with the full installed replacement cost.

The diagnostic visit costs $125. The full $125 is credited toward the final repair cost. The full repair cost can only be determined after diagnosis.
Identify the oven before comparing prices
A freestanding range, a slide-in range and a built-in wall oven can require different access and removal work. A double oven adds another question: is the fault limited to one cavity or does it affect shared controls or supply? Include those details with the model number.
Separate an oven problem from a surface-burner or cooktop problem. A range can have working burners while its oven fails, and the reverse is possible. Describe whether bake, broil, convection, the display or the door is affected rather than requesting a generic stove part.

What is included in the proposed repair?
Electric bake or broil: an element, its connections, the supply or a control fault can require different work. A no-heat symptom alone does not establish that an element must be replaced. Ask which function was tested and what failed.
Gas oven ignition: the ignition system and gas controls differ from an electric bake element. The exact assembly and diagnosis determine the work; gas repairs are not automatically more expensive than every electric repair. Qualified gas-system service is essential.
Temperature problems: the control, temperature sensing, settings or another cause may need assessment. A sensor’s retail price does not establish the total charge, and uneven cooking alone does not identify that sensor as faulty.
Door, hinges, seals or glass: establish whether a small component, a glass panel or a larger assembly is required. Access, part availability and any related damage matter. Do not assume a door repair is always cheaper than an internal repair.
Control board: ask what ruled out supply, connection or other component faults before replacement. See our oven control-board guide for the distinction between symptoms and a confirmed board problem.
Questions to settle before approving the work
Review how the full $125 diagnostic credit appears in your repair quote. Check the parts, labor and applicable tax, whether removal and reinstallation of a wall oven are included, and whether another person or trade is needed for access.
Ask for the part or assembly being supplied, its availability and whether another visit is included. If further damage is discovered, agree on how additional work will be quoted and approved. Keep the estimate rather than relying on a verbal starting price.
Ask which repair warranty applies and what it covers. If you have manufacturer coverage or a service contract, confirm its process and authorization requirements first. Coverage for a part does not necessarily include all labor or access work.
A replacement must fit more than your budget
Measure the decision against a replacement that fits the existing opening and electrical or gas requirements. A same-width product description does not establish compatible cutout dimensions, clearances or installation. Check the proposed model’s installation instructions.
Include delivery, removal, installation, any cabinet work and necessary connection changes in the replacement total. For a range, consider how the replacement will fit surrounding cabinetry; for a wall oven, check the cutout and support requirements.
Use our oven repair-or-replace calculator with those actual amounts. Review condition, part availability, past repairs and the cooking functions you need. Neither reaching a particular age nor crossing a fixed percentage makes replacement the only sensible choice.
Prepare without dismantling the appliance
Have the full model, a description of the affected function and any displayed code ready. Mention a recent outage, installation, spill or cleaning cycle if it preceded the problem. Do not recreate a fault or remove panels to make a service request more detailed.
Follow the model’s ordinary cleaning instructions, including any restrictions around seals, finishes and self-cleaning. General claims that a periodic tune-up or a new oven will always save money are not a substitute for examining your appliance and estimate.
Leave an oven with broken glass, damaged electrical parts or unsafe operation off. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, leave immediately without operating switches or plugs, then call 911 and your gas supplier from safety. A potential leak is not a routine quote-shopping problem.
A little clarity
Frequently asked questions
How much does an oven element replacement cost?
The correct element or assembly, diagnosis, access, labor and applicable charges determine the estimate. A part-only listing is not a complete installed repair price.
Is replacing a temperature sensor cheaper than replacing a board?
It depends on the exact parts and work required. First establish the failed component; a temperature complaint alone does not prove either part needs replacement.
Is an older oven worth repairing?
It can be, depending on condition, parts availability, repair history and the installed cost of a suitable replacement. Age alone is not a diagnosis.
Can I save labor by removing the wall oven first?
Tell the scheduler about the installation and let the service plan address safe access. Do not remove a heavy or connected appliance simply to prepare for a quote.
