Follow the ice from water supply to glass
The ice maker fills, freezes and releases ice into a bin; the dispenser then moves stored ice to the glass on models with door dispensing. A working water dispenser does not establish that every ice-making step is working.
Check whether there is ice in the bin and whether new batches have appeared. Tell us if there is no water in the mold, small batches, ice stuck in place or a bin full of ice that will not dispense. Do not reach into or move the mechanism by hand.
Did output change after a filter or plumbing change?
Whirlpool identifies restricted supply and water-filter issues among possible reasons for poor ice production. Use the correct filter and verify installation against the model guide. Note any recent shutoff, installation or refrigerator move.
Do not disconnect the supply or pull the appliance out merely to inspect behind it. A technician can assess the fill path and the model’s pressure requirements. A continuity reading alone does not establish that a valve supplies the correct water flow.
The setpoint and actual compartment condition differ
A freezer that is too warm can slow or stop production. Check settings against the owner guide and note whether other frozen items are affected. Recent startup, a large ice demand and frequent door openings provide useful context.
Record when the last normal batch appeared. Avoid treating the bin’s condition immediately after a change as proof of a permanent fault; follow the model’s recovery guidance without leaving a persistent leak or cooling problem unattended.
Clumps and leaks need the source identified
For a removable bin, follow the owner instructions for emptying, cleaning, drying and refitting. Never force an arm or auger through frozen ice. Recurrent clumps can follow temperature changes, so tell us about outages or thawed food as well.
Water inside the ice compartment is different from water at a filter housing or on the floor. Note the location safely and stop using a leaking appliance. Do not thaw installed components with a hair dryer or probe a frozen fill tube.
Use the reset method for the actual model
Whirlpool models differ in controls and reset methods. Consult the exact guide before trying a button sequence or power cycle; do not assume a hidden reset button exists on every unit. A reset does not identify why the symptom returns.
