Start with the space and connections
Tell us whether you already have the replacement disposal and whether the existing unit leaks, hums or has stopped. Include the full models and an accessible photograph of the space under the sink. Do not reach into the grinding chamber or disconnect wiring.
A larger replacement can affect the available space and drain alignment. The installation plan should account for the sink mounting, discharge connection and the model’s electrical requirements rather than relying on horsepower alone.
Mention a dishwasher that drains through the disposal
If the dishwasher is connected to the disposal, say so when booking. The replacement needs the correct inlet preparation and drain-hose connection under its own instructions. Some models use a removable inlet plug or knockout.
A dishwasher that stopped draining immediately after sink or disposal work needs that connection checked. Tell the technician the sequence of events before assuming the dishwasher itself needs a new pump.
Explain where the old unit leaks
Report whether water first appears near the sink flange, discharge pipe, dishwasher hose or disposal body. A visible leak is a reason to stop use and arrange assessment, especially where water could reach electrical equipment.
Not every leak is a reason to replace the whole disposal. The source and condition of the unit matter. If diagnostic repair assessment is needed, the diagnostic visit is $125. The full $125 is credited toward the final repair cost. The full repair cost is determined after diagnosis.
What to review after installation
Ask which mounting and connection components were used and keep the replacement instructions. Manufacturer installation guidance includes checking the sink, discharge and dishwasher connections for leaks as well as testing operation.
Follow the model’s care instructions, including suitable food waste and water use. Do not treat the disposal as a drain-cleaning tool or put your hand inside it to check an obstruction.
